Forbes Global 2000 is a comprehensive list of the world’s largest, most powerful public companies, as measured by revenues, profits, assets and market value. A composite score is achieved by weighting each of the four numbers equally as of April 1, 2014 closing prices and includes all common shares outstanding.

For the first time, China is home to the world’s three biggest public companies and five of the top 10. State-controlled Chinese bank ICBC holds onto the top spot for a second consecutive year, while China Construction Bank takes second place and Agricultural Bank of China moves up five spots to third. The Bank of China also makes the top 10 at number 9.

The other half of the top 10 are taken by US companies - Berkshire Hathaway and Wells Fargo both move up four spots to 5 and 9, respectively, and J.P. Morgan drops to fourth. Europe’s only top 10 companies in last year’s ranking drop positions - Royal Dutch Shell (11) and HSBC Holdings (14).
