BEIJING--China posted a current-account surplus of $71.2 billion in the third quarter, the country's foreign-exchange regulator said Friday.

During the same period, China's capital and financial account recorded a $71.2 billion deficit, according to the preliminary data released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

The data are preliminary and subject to change, the regulator said.
