Increased employment among women

In October 2016, there were 4 930 000 employed persons aged 15-74, not seasonally adjusted. This is an increase of 77 000 persons compared with October 2015, of whom 54 000 were women. The number of unemployed persons amounted to 338 000, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent. The number of hours worked averaged 167.7 million per week, which was an increase of 2.7 percent when differences in holidays were taken into account. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows minor changes in the employment rate and a slight decrease in the unemployment rate, which was 6.9 percent.

In October2016, the number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 4 930 000, not seasonally adjusted, which is an increase of 77 000. The number of employed women increased by 54 000 and amounted to 2 351 000, while the number of employed men amounted to 2 579 000. The employment rate was 67.1 percent. Among women, the employment rate increased by 1.0 percentage points and was 65.0 percent, and among men it was 69.2 percent. The number of employed persons according to smoothed and seasonally adjusted data increased compared with previous months, while the employment rate shows minor changes. There were 4 921 000 employed persons, which corresponds to an employment rate of 67.0 percent.

The number of employees in October 2016 amounted to 4 429 000, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 60 000, of whom 47 000 were women compared with October 2015. The number of permanent employees increased by 57 000 and amounted to 3 701 000. Among women, the number of permanent employees was 1 810 000 and among men it was 1 891 000. The number of temporary employees amounted to 728 000. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in the number of permanent employees while the number of temporary employees, which previously has decreased, now shows minor changes.

On average, the number of hours worked in October 2016 amounted to 167.7 million per week, not seasonally adjusted. When differences in holidays were taken into account, the increase was 2.7 percent compared with October 2015. According to smoothed and seasonally adjusted data, the number of hours worked amounted to 150.2 million per week, which means minor changes compared with previous months.

In October 2016, the number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 338 000, not seasonally adjusted, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent. The number of unemployed women amounted to 155 000 and the number of unemployed men amounted to 183 000. Among women the unemployment rate was 6.2 percent and among men it was 6.6 percent. The number of unemployed persons aged 15-24 amounted to 97 000, of whom 51 000 were full time students. The unemployment rate among persons aged 15-24 was 15.9 percent. Among people aged 15-74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data showed a slight decrease in the number of unemployed persons and in the unemployment rate compared with previous months. The number of unemployed persons amounted to 364 000, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent. The unemployment rate was 6.5 percent among women and 7.3 percent among men. Among young persons aged 15-24, both the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate continued to decrease. The number of unemployed young persons amounted to 114 000 and the unemployment rate was 18.2 percent.
