MOSCOW--OAO Mobile TeleSystems's third-quarter net profit fell 12.8% on the year to 12.6 billion rubles ($195 million), in part because Russia's biggest telecoms company has stopped working in Uzbekistan and currencies in its countries of operation have weakened against the ruble.

The company said third-quarter revenue stood at RUB112.2 billion, 1.3% lower than in the corresponding period a year before. This is the first on-the-year decline in revenue this year.

"Macroeconomic factors and rough competition continue to impact the company's operational activity in many regards," Andrei Dubovskov, the company's chief executive, said.

MTS's third-quarter adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization fell 5.1% to RUB 45.7 billion. Oibda dynamics had a negative impact on net profit, the company said.
