BEIJING--China's external debt stood at $1.432 trillion as of the end of September, up 3% from the end of June, the nation's foreign-exchange regulator said Friday.

Short-term debt was at $894.4 billion, or 62% of total, while medium-to-long-term debt stood at $537.6 billion, or 38% of the total, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange said.

The regulator said 47.4% of the debt was denominated in U.S. dollars.
