Asian rubber futures price ended Friday's session higher as investors indulged in active buying before the New Year holiday.

Demand from China is expected to improve in the coming weeks because of the Lunar New Year holiday, traders say.

The Tokyo Commodity Exchange rubber contract for June delivery ended 2.9 yen higher at Y263.9 ($2.26) a kilogram Friday. Tocom will be closed Monday and Tuesday for holiday observance.

The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for May delivery was up 185 yuan to settle at CNY18,170 ($2,614) a metric ton.
