PARIS--French consumer prices ticked upward in December, contributing to a slight rise on the year, data showed Thursday.

France's consumer price index rose 0.3% on the month and was 0.6% higher on year, after a 0.5% year-over-year rise in November, statistics agency Insee said.

France's HICP--the measure of inflation closely watched by the European Central Bank--was 0.8% on year in December, easing from 0.7% on year in November. The December rate was the highest since May 2014, Insee said.
