BEIJING--China's exports fell 2.0% in 2016 from a year earlier in yuan terms, extending a decline of 1.8% in 2015, official data showed Friday.

Imports last year gained 0.6% in yuan terms from a year earlier, reversing a drop of 13.2% in 2015, the General Administration of Customs said.

The country's trade surplus narrowed by 9.1% last year to 3.35 trillion yuan ($486.1 billion).

The government hasn't released December figures yet.
