SINGAPORE--Singapore's overall unemployment rate was 2.2% in the fourth quarter of 2016, inching up from 2.1% in the previous three months, government data released Thursday showed.

The total number of jobs added in the December quarter was 1,900, compared with 2,700 jobs lost in the September quarter, the data showed.

The number of redundancies in the quarter, however, rose to 5,300 from 4,220 in the previous three months. A total of about 19,000 jobs were made redundant in 2016, compared with 15,580 in 2015.

The total workforce in Singapore at the end of 2016 was 3.67 million, compared with 3.66 million the previous year.
